Welcome to Polecat’s newest project page! During the next few months I will be developing an online reference for insulator consolidated design numbers (CD) , unipart porcelain (U), and multipart porcelain (M) numbers. These numbering systems were developed during the last century by various pioneering members of the insulator collecting hobby. During the past fifty years, CD, U and M numbers have been adopted by the hobby as the publicly available reference standard by which collectible insulators are classified in print, commerce, and conversation.
For half a century the legally unrestricted use and reuse of the CD, U, and M numbers across the public domain has been prevalent in both the analog and digital hobby media. Many Internet active hobbyists have included both incidental and extensive references to these CD, U, and M numbers in their web properties. Numerous hobby related publications dating to the 1960s refer to these numbers.
While other online projects make extensive use of these reference number systems individually to provide the Internet active hobbyist with value, color, and style information, this project will provide hobbyists with a centralized, reference for both the glass insulator (CD) and porcelain insulator (U and M) reference numbers.
Ultimately this project will migrate to CDNUM.COM
